What We Do

REMARK is a Landscape Architectural Studio founded in 2007 by husband and wife team J.R. and Holly Kramer.  They are both registered Landscape Architects who have been practicing in the Charleston area since 1999, having received their Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Georgia that same year.   Based in North Charleston, SC, REMARK works regionally on private gardens, commercial projects, public parks and institutional projects.
We are focused on innovative design and client service with an emphasis on sustainable practices.  We consistently apply the principles of design such as form, proportion, balance, rhythm, mystery, and unity to create places that are dynamic and inviting. Being good stewards of the land and natural resources is a high priority and we use plants native to the place and materials typical of the place in a way that celebrates the changing seasons, respects natural resources and the history of the place.  We call this approach aesthetic ecology:  the method by which we use native plants and incorporate important natural systems in a refined architectural manor.  This method retains a strong connection to the natural world, but in a clearly designed way that responds to the needs and aesthetic sensibilities of the people who inhabit the space.
We collaborate with the client from the conceptual phase, through construction to ensure a dynamic design and high performance landscape that meets the client’s needs and capitalizes on the existing site features.
We provide Landscape Architecture Services for a variety of Project types, including  Residential Design, Mixed Use developments, Multi-family, Urban Planning, Neighborhood Design, Resort Planning, Campus Planning, Park Design and Ecological Restoration and Design.

We approach each project with the mindset of incorporating sustainable strategies at the beginning and developing an innovative, cohesive design.
